About Me

I’m both a dry eye patient and a longtime advocate for people living with chronic illness. My dry eye journey began about six years ago, when severe symptoms led me through a long and often frustrating search for answers, specialists, and treatments. This was not my first encounter with a poorly understood, life-altering condition. More than 30 years ago, I developed chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which changed the course of my life and career. Wanting to help others facing similar challenges, I became deeply involved in the chronic illness community—running a CFS/Fibromyalgia website, writing articles, and building online communities and resources. Another important part of my background is my training in counseling psychology and my work as a grief counselor, which shaped my understanding that grief is associated not only with the loss of a loved one, but also with the challenges of illness. Dry eye disease and other ocular surface disorders can profoundly affect quality of life, identity, and emotional well-being.

Why I joined the board

The Dry Eye Foundation was a lifeline for me during one of the hardest periods of my life, and joining the Board feels like an opportunity to give back and contribute to an organization whose mission I believe is so essential today. My experiences with chronic illness, patient advocacy, and counseling all came together in unexpected ways through dry eye disease. I understand firsthand how isolating and misunderstood these conditions can feel.

My work at the Foundation

Over the past three decades, I’ve learned that while chronic illness can profoundly change the course of a life, we can still find meaning, connection, and hope. I’m honored to be part of an organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with dry eye disease and other ocular surface disorders through education, advocacy, and compassionate support.
